Dhoni beats Shah Rukh, Sachin
Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has topped the chart for celebrity endorsements on television during the first six months of this year, leaving behind not only Shah Rukh Khan and Sachin Tendulkar, but also the gorgeous ladies of the silver screen.
During the January to June period, while Dhoni endorsed brands for 24 companies on TV, Shah Rukh and Sachin were seen promoting the products of 16 and 15 firms, respectively, according to the Adex survey of TAM Media Research.
Interestingly, Dhoni also left behind many Bollywood actresses, who enjoyed a combined 45 per cent share of the total celebrity endorsements on TV between January and June.

Portugal held to a frantic 4-4 draw by Cyprus
A last-gasp goal from winger Andreas Avraam denied Portugal victory in a thrilling topsy-turvy 4-4 draw against Cyprus in a Euro 2012 qualifier on Friday.
With Cristiano Ronaldo out with an ankle injury and suspended coach Carlos Queiroz watching from the stands, the Cypriots added to Portugal's woes by stunning them with an early goal.
Winger Efstathios Aloneftis combined well with Michalis Konstantinou to find space at the edge of the box and produce a fine lob over Eduardo in the third minute.

Woods expects Ryder Cup jeers
Tiger Woods wants to play a Ryder Cup in Europe again - even though he is promised a partisan reception.
The world number one was expected to be named as one of Corey Pavin's four wild cards later on Tuesday after finishing 12th and 11th in his last two events, a marked improvement on what came before.
America defend the trophy at Celtic Manor on October 1-3 and for Woods it would be a sixth cap. He made his debut at Valderrama in 1997 and also played at The Belfry in 2002 and the K Club four years ago.
"Well, on the road it's very different," he said after his closing 68 at the Deutsche Bank Championship in Boston on Monday.
"You get booed a lot, you get jeered and people say things they probably shouldn't say.
"Unfortunately I've seen it on both sides. They did it with Monty (European captain Colin Montgomerie), so it goes both ways and I've had that experience and understand how to deal with it and make it a positive thing.
"I missed the last one because I was hurt and it would be nice to be on the team.
"I enjoy playing in the Ryder Cup and going out there against those guys with my teammates and see if we can get it done."

Maradona rejects return for Argentina against Spain
Esteban Cambiasso, Javier Zanetti and Gabriel Milito will make their Argentina comebacks against world champions Spain in a friendly at the River Plate stadium Tuesday (9 p.m. British time).
The trio were overlooked by Diego Maradona for the recent World Cup finals in South Africa, where Argentina crashed out in a 4-0 quarter-final defeat by Germany.
"Gabriel has shown me can bring the ball out well from defence, he has good left foot with good touch," Sergio Batista, Maradona's successor, said of Barcelona centre back Milito.

New coach, same story for France but Spain shine
France received chilling notice that the road to post-World Cup redemption will be long and hard when they lost 1-0 to Belarus in Paris on Friday, while Portugal threw away two points in a frantic 4-4 draw at home to Cyprus.
England and Italy were able to start repairing their reputations with contrasting wins in their first Euro 2012 qualifiers and Spain swatted away Liechtenstein 4-0 with an ease befitting their status as world and European champions.
England played with the quick passing and invention that eluded them in South Africa as they beat Bulgaria 4-0 at Wembley, Jermain Defoe netting a smartly taken hat-trick and Adam Johnson getting the fourth in the Group G clash.

Aus wary of CWG after attack on Indian swimmer
Australian swimmers are reconsidering coming to India to participate in the Commonwealth Games.
The decision comes after Indian swimmer B. Balakrishnan was attacked in Chennai on Sunday morning. Balakrishnan suffered serious head and limb injuries after two men on bikes bashed him up on his way to training.
According to Herald Sun, the management in Australia has said that it will allow its swimmers to skip the games if they are worried about their safety. Swimming Australia president David Urq-hart has said that any swimmer who felt unsafe in Delhi and wanted to leave would be allowed to fly back home.
Earlier swimming ace, Balakrishnan was attacked by two men on bikes while he was on his way for practice.
He is a champion swimmer who won 2 golds at the recent national swimming championship. But Balakrishnan's hopes of making India proud at the Commonwealth Games has been shattered.
He was attacked by three unknown men while he was on his routine training session on Sunday morning. Balakrishnan was brutally hit on the head, arms and legs with cricket stumps.

Divorce? I don't care, says Rooney
Manchester United and England footballer Wayne Rooney is unrepentant about his sexual relations with a sex worker during his wife's pregnancy, so much so that he is willing to divorce her if she can’t handle the revelation, according to a British media report.
Rooney, who is to play for England against Switzerland on Tuesday night in Basle, is apparently adamant that he will not be criticised by Coleen and her parents, the Mail online reported, quoting a source who was not idenitified.
"Wayne is not prepared to take any nonsense off the wife and her family, not least because they are all living a very nice life off the back of his talent. If Coleen can't handle it and it's finished, so let it be. It seems he thinks he can do anything what he wants because they'd all be nothing without him,” the source was quoted as saying.
The sex worker, Jennifer Thompson, claimed that they met for sex at the five-star Lowry Hotel in Salford and that after one encounter Rooney summoned a member of the hotel staff demanding cigarettes, handing over 200 Pounds in exchange for a packet of 20 Marlboro.
Miss Thompson said that he had openly spoken to her in front of Manchester United team mates including Michael Owen in Rio Ferdinand's Italian restaurant, Rosso.
Rooney and his advisers have made no legal move yet to gag Miss Thompson.

Roger Federer booked a place in his 25th consecutive Grand Slam Quarterfinal
Roger Federer booked a place in his 25th consecutive Grand Slam Quarterfinal Monday night with a 6-3, 7-6(4), 6-3 win over Austria's Jurgen Melzer. The Swiss inches closer to a record sixth US Open title and has yet to drop a set along the way
Tonight marked the second consecutive time the two had met in the fourth round of a Grand Slam. (Federer also downed Melzer in straight sets this year at Wimbledon.) Before that, the two had not played one another since a Juniors Orange Bowl matchup in 1998.
On triple match point, Federer casually scooped up a Melzer drop shot and delivered a perfect winner to cap the victory. The quarterfinals should present an interesting challenge for Federer. He will face fifth seed Robin Soderling, the man who ended his French Open run in their last meeting.

Clijsters beats Ivanovic to win 18th straight match at US Open
Ever since she was a teenager, Kim Clijsters has always played well in the U.S.
"Ever since I was 15, 16, I have always played really good matches in America. I am married to an American," Clijsters said. "Not that I think about it (the 18-match winning streak), but I want to try and keep it going. I've always enjoyed playing here at the US Open. I remember playing qualifying and playing Serena in 2001 or 2002, many years ago already. But just to have that comfort on the surface, as well, I've always enjoyed playing on hardcourts, so it's a good surface for me to just move the way that I want to move."
"I really tried to use the chances that I had, and that's what I did really well," Clijsters said. "And then once I was up 3-1, I went to 4-2, and I felt like I was dictating really well during the points and kind of using the two sides of the court well."
"I really lost my way a little bit," she said of her game after winning the French Open. "That's disappointing. But overall, I'm just very happy about where my game's heading and the way I've been working and practicing."
"Obviously, you know, the US Open is a special tournament for me. I wasn't able to defend my title in 2006, so coming here as a defending champion has been a new experience and something that kind of keeps it fresh," Clijsters said. "And tennis-wise, as well, I felt that I've been improving every match. We'll see. (I) want to try and keep it going."
Djokovic dishes on Fish in straight-set smackdown
"We're having Fish for lunch today," the fan said. "Well done."
Indeed, American Mardy Fish was Djokovic's dish in their fourth-round encounter, helpless to hurt the Serb in a 6-3, 6-4, 6-1 loss that lasted less than two hours.
The No. 19 seed entered a winner in 25 of 29 matches since June 8, but never looked completely comfortable in Flushing, where he was stretched to five sets in first-week matches with No. 82 Jan Hajek and No. 68 Arnaud Clement.
Djokovic, on the other hand, has gotten better with each passing round. Against Fish, he converted six of eight break points and conceded only three aces.
"It's very encouraging at this stage of the tournament that I'm raising my game and feeling more comfortable on the court," said Djokovic. "I was using my serve in important moments extremely well, opening the court and not giving him enough chances to come to the net and be aggressive."
"I felt so many times today -- even off my first serves -- I was sort of fighting to neutralize the point," said Fish. "I was on my back foot quite a bit, even when I was with the wind."
"He puts a lot of pressure on you with his movement," said Fish. "He's probably one of the top three fastest guys on tour.
"It's very hard to wrong-foot him. It's very hard to hit a winner from the baseline. It's very hard to get him on defense. You can't really rely on much as far as a game plan against him."
Djokovic, the 2007 US Open runner-up, advances to the quarterfinals to play No. 17 Gael Monfils, whom he has defeated in all four of their career meetings.
All teams chance to win Airtel Champions League T20.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni believes that all teams stand a good chance at Airtel Champions League T20.
Speaking with NDTV, the Indian captain acknowledged that the T20 extravaganza is a big tournament with best players from around the globe joining the action.
“We are off to South Africa. The Champions League is there. Again a big tournament. All the champions from different countries will gather at one place and play against each other. So I'm just hoping the tournament will be interesting.”
Talking about his side Chennei Super kings’ chances, Dhoni said that every side had a good chance and it depended on how they perform on the given day.
“I think every side has a good chance, especially in this format. It's just about that particular day and who knows which one of the players has his brilliant day. It can be a bowler, it can be a batsman... I feel it's a very day oriented game. That three and a half hour matter and if you act your best on that particular day, then you can beat any side, maybe even the strongest side in the world”.
Murray bounced by Wawrinka in four sets
When he is playing well, Andy Murray is still not known as a showman, but by pushing his opponents to attempt ever-riskier shots, he makes easy ones for himself, and some of his best wins have the feeling of faits accompli.
"He played better than me," Murray later said. "There's not a whole lot more to it ... I'm just disappointed I didn't play my greatest tennis here."
"He was not feeling okay," Wawrinka said. "I was trying to stay aggressive and make him run a lot, and I think I did pretty well."
Murray responded with a couple of forehands shoveled long, and hurried off the court.
Wozniacki beats Maria Sharapova in straight sets
The timing didn't bother Caroline Wozniacki, however, as the upstart Dane deposed the reigning glamour queen, Maria Sharapova, in straight sets.
The scoreline, 6-3, 6-4, was misleading. It looks like a straightforward win for Wozniacki, but taking down the imperious Russian is never comfortable.
As tightly contested as this match was, it was one in which numbers told the story: Sharapova was just one of nine on break-point opportunities, she hit nime shaky double faults, and committed 36 unforced errors, to just 10 for Wozniacki, who was steady as a Swiss watch.
Wozniacki, who lost but three games in her first three matches, quickly showed that she belonged on the biggest stage in tennis. Scrambling, she kept points long, while Sharapova looked for weak replies to tee off on.
"I think I'm a really tough player," said Wozniacki. "I never give up. Doesn't matter what the score is. And I think that makes me tough to beat."
"She's at the top of her game," said Sharapova afterwards, "playing the best tennis of her career." After her victory over Sharapova, it's unlikely that Wozniacki has many doubters.
