Roger Federer booked a place in his 25th consecutive Grand Slam Quarterfinal

Roger Federer booked a place in his 25th consecutive Grand Slam Quarterfinal Monday night with a 6-3, 7-6(4), 6-3 win over Austria's Jurgen Melzer. The Swiss inches closer to a record sixth US Open title and has yet to drop a set along the way

Tonight marked the second consecutive time the two had met in the fourth round of a Grand Slam. (Federer also downed Melzer in straight sets this year at Wimbledon.) Before that, the two had not played one another since a Juniors Orange Bowl matchup in 1998.

On triple match point, Federer casually scooped up a Melzer drop shot and delivered a perfect winner to cap the victory. The quarterfinals should present an interesting challenge for Federer. He will face fifth seed Robin Soderling, the man who ended his French Open run in their last meeting.
