Fernando Alonso believes Ferrari's versatility could translate into victory in this season's Formula One title.

"Despite failing to score in Spa, where the accident on the first lap weighed heavily like a stone, Ferrari and I have scored more points than anyone else in these last four races," said Alonso.

"That makes us even more confident, and the fact these results were on tracks with very different characteristics to one another, confirms our car is pretty versatile."

"Feeling so close to the tifosi that I had the impression I could touch their enthusiasm with my hand was really something special," added Alonso.

"There is a passion for Ferrari all over the world, but in Italy it is stronger still, and I was fortunate enough to be at the wheel of an Italian car winning the Italian Grand Prix.

"A few days on from that really happy moment in Monza, we can claim to have made a good step forward.

"At Spa, things did not go well, so it was hard to say beforehand what we might really be capable of.

"However, we knew that as long as we did our best, we would be in with a chance and that's how things turned out.

"Now our aim must be to try and do the same in the final five races of the championship."

Ferrari have avoided further punishment following a hearing into their use of prohibited team orders at the German GP.

"The judging body of the World Motor Sport Council held an extraordinary hearing in Paris on 8 September 2010 to examine this matter.

"After an in-depth analysis of all reports, statements and documents submitted, the judging body has decided to confirm the stewards' decision of a 100,000 US dollars fine for infringing article 39.1 of the Sporting Regulations and to impose the payment of the costs incurred by the FIA.

"The judging body has also acknowledged that article 39.1 of the Sporting Regulations should be reviewed and has decided to refer this question to the Formula One Sporting Working Group."

"Now, all the team's efforts will be focused on the next event on track, when the Italian Grand Prix takes place at Monza this weekend."

F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone, who was one of the 26 members of the Council to review the case, had stated the teams should be allowed to run their organisations as they see fit.

As team orders have existed throughout F1 history, it would appear they now stand on the brink of again being legalised.

Alonso faces the prospect of being stripped of his controversial German Grand Prix victory as Ferrari stand accused of using team orders, which are banned in Formula One, to engineer the result.

Should such a punishment be meted out, Alonso would drop be 66 points adrift of current championship leader Lewis Hamilton instead of 41.That point was emphasised by reigning champion Jenson Button, who told said: "I don't think the drivers will get a penalty.

"If they do get another penalty it will be for the team because it was an order from the team.

"Personally I don't understand why they just don't swap the points around for those two, but you can't do that within the regulations."

"If one wants to fulfil the needs of the audience, then one must maintain the ban," said Mosley.

"Both cars and both drivers should lose the points they achieved in the German Grand Prix."

Fernando Alonso won the Bahrain Grand Prix in his first drive for Ferrari as teammate Felipe Massa completed a one-two for the Italian team on his return from injury.
