Chennai Super Kings beats Dare Devils in Ipl3 2010

Matthew Hayden unleashed the Mongoose bat on the IPL with a bludgeoning 93 while stand-in captain Suresh Raina kept his cool with a fine unbeaten 49 as Chennai Super Kings chased down a stiff target to beat Delhi Daredevils at the Feroz Shah Kotla on Friday.
Hayden bettered Virender Sehwag's swashbuckling knock earlier to set up Chennai's huge run chase. He missed what would have been his first IPL century by seven runs but his runs had come in manic pace, taking just 43 balls and included seven towering sixes.
Raina joined Hayden when Chennai had lost two early wickets but the stand-in skipper played an admirable support role as Hayden launched into the Delhi bowlers in their chase of 186. Quick wickets towards the end let Delhi in with a chance, but Raina sealed it with a six with five balls remaining.
Earlier, Virender Sehwag slammed a fiery 38-ball 74 to fire Delhi Daredevils to a competitive 185-6. His early onslaught set up the Delhi middle order to provide a late burst which took them to an impressive target after stand-in captain Dinesh Karthik won the toss and opted to bat.
Sehwag lashed 10 fours and three sixes even as Delhi lost opener David Warner early for six. Warner, who had replaced the injured Gautam Gambhir in the line-up, failed to impress in his first game of this season.
Sehwag, however, continued his charge along with Tillakaratne Dilshan, until Muttiah Muralitharan dealt a double blow to get rid of both batsmen in succession. Dilshan contributed just 15 out of their partnership of 67. AB de Villiers was next to go, falling to a diving Suresh Raina catch for two.
Delhi, however, quelled the Chennai fightback as Dinesh Karthik, Mithun Manhas and Rajat Bhatia provided a late surge to the hosts. Manhas scored a quickfire unbeaten 32 while Bhatia slammed 21 from just nine balls.

The team that stays positive will win: Raina

Chennai Super Kings stand-in-skipper Suresh Raina said Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be missed in Friday’s Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Delhi Daredevils, though the side has good, experienced players to fill in for him. Raina said the side that plays positive cricket will win Friday. Dhoni is out of action for at least 10 days with an injured elbow. “We will miss him (Dhoni), no doubt. And when a player gives his hundred percent in the field, he will also risk injury. If you look at the last match, he batted really well, till the last over,” Raina said. “But I do not think the team should be dependent on one player, and we have other good players. Hopefully, we will do well.” Raina said Parthiv Patel will take over from Dhoni as wicketkeeper and he will also open the innings. “Parthiv will open the innings tomorrow and we have Justin Kemp, Morkel, myself, Badri and Vijay in the middle order.” Raina hoped the captaincy will help his batting, and is happy that he enjoys the support of the seniors in the dressing room. “The reponsibility will be a good exposure for me and it has come in a big tournament like this. In the dressing room, I have Haydos (Hayden), Kemp, (Stephen) Flemming, so we have a lot of experience in the team.” “I have scored runs in the last two years and this year I have got the captaincy. The selectors must have seen something in me and I hope the responsibility helps to improve my batting,” he said. On more and more players getting injured in IPL, Raina said: “My job is to play and I will give my 100 percent. Injuries are in God’s hands, I will play as long as I am fit. It’s good for me – more I play, the better it is.” “It will be a real contest tomorrow. The Delhi team has so many experienced players. We too have world class players. The team that plays positive cricket will win tomorrow.” Asked if Dhoni has given him any advice, Raina said: “He told me to keep it simple and that we have the potential. ‘Whatever decision you take, you must go for it and play freely,’ he said. I will do my best.”

Tiger Woods news: Need to prove to sponsors in Masters

THE RETURN of Tiger Woods to golf, with the Masters Tournament at the Augusta Greens, has become a moment of reckoning for his sponsors like Nike, Gillete and EA Sports. While the sponsers had chosen to stand with the number one ranked golfer during the scandals involving Woods' personal life, they may part ways if the Tiger isn't able to perform at the PGA tour. The Tiger Woods scandal, which surfaced in November, saw as many as ten women confirming that the golfer had had an affair with them, over the course of his ten year marriage to Elin Nordegren. While wife Elin moved out, the golfer took a break from golf, stating the need to spend time with his family and be and shunted off to a sex addiction clinic. Many sponsors severed ties with the golfer, including Gatorade, which announced ending its deal with Tiger Woods on February 26 and Accenture. Gillete had also distanced himself from the golfer. Those who remained with him, did so during the 12 weeks when he was absent from public view. Tiger Woods needs to payback to these sponsors as a steady brand ambassador on the Augusta Greens in two ways. While it is a given that a good game by the golfer will boost his image and that brands associated with him tremendously, the true test will be model conduct on the greens and off it. Tiger Woods has seen a huge loss of face after the sex scandal broke through and needs to show that he is serious on the promises he made to fans during the February press conference cum apology.
