Saina in semifinal of All England badminton




India’s Saina Nehwal stormed into the women’s semifinal of the All England
Badminton Championship with a stunning 21-8, 21-14 quarterfinal win over Germany’s
Juliane Schenk in 27 minutes at the National Indoor Arena in Brimingham.
Saina is the first Indian woman to reach the quarterfinals of All England, which
is in its centenary year. In the semifinal, Saina will meet former world No.1 Tine
Rasmussen of Denmark. Rasmussen shocked world champion and sixth seed Lan Lu
16-21, 23-21, 21-11 in the first quarterfinal.“It is a fantastic victory,” said Pullela Gopichand, former All England champion and national coach, in a statement.

Ghambhir smashes to give victory to daredevils with PunjabXI in DLF IPL-3 2010


Riding on a captain’s knock of 72 from Gautam Gambhir, Delhi Daredevils beat Kings XI Punjab by five wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium here Saturday.
Gambhir’s flamboyant 72 came off 54 balls as Daredevils made 146 for five wickets with one ball to spare in reply to Kings XI’s 142 for nine in 20 overs.
Gambhir played a composed knock and repaired the innings after Daredevils slumped to 79 for four by the 13th over. Gambhir hit nine fours and a six and by the time he departed in the last over, Daredevils were alredy on the threshold of a win.

australia target Olympics gold after world cup victory with Germany


Having won the hockey World Cup after 24 years, Australian captain Jamie Dwyer
said they would now aim to win the gold at the 2012 London Olympics.
Australian coach Ric Charlesworth, who won the World Cup both as a player and a
coach, said there is still scope for the team to improve, specially in the
finishing of the forwardline.Dwyer said they had prepared hard for the tournament.
“We are happy to win the tournament. We played better tonight. Every player in the
team contributed towards the effort of the team,” said Dwyer, who was playing in
his last World Cup.
“We have been preparing for the World Cup for 14 months and it is a fantastic
feeling to win it finally after losing twice to Germany in the last two editions.
Now we will go back home, take a few weeks’ rest, and set a new goal to win the
Olymics,” said Dwyer.
