sachin proud of his daughter`s sarahs beautifull nature

Sachin and Anjali Tendulkar were preparing to celebrate their daughter Sarah’s birthday last October when she bowled a googly to her dad. Today, he admits that it is one of his greatest lessons off-the-pitch.“We were preparing to celebrate her (Sarah’s) birthday when she said that she doesn’t want a party at home. We were a little surprised. She wanted to have a party at (the slums of) Govandi and wanted to share the goodies with the (slum) children there. We felt really proud when my daughter said this,” says Sachin even as Anjali nods her head in approval. As usual Anjali had decided that it was only Sachin who will do the talking.
“My daughter made me think. I thought that everybody donates money but it is a greater gift to donate your time. That is why I decided to auction a half-day’s coaching camp with the kids (on eBay on behalf of an NGO). It was my daughter Sarah who inspired me to do charity,” candidly admits Sachin explaining how he decided to donate his time than the ‘much easier option of donating just money’.
When asked about son Arjun, both Sachin and Anjali’s faces light up. After a quick glance towards his wife, the Master Blaster admits that though he often talks about cricket with his son, his recent knock of 200 ODI runs has remained out of their discussions.
“We (Sachin and Arjun) keep talking about cricket all the time. But I never spoke about my knock (of 200 runs against South Africa) with him. But I definitely spoke about it with Anjali. My mom also watched the entire match. In fact, I was very happy about the way my near and dear ones reacted when I came back home. They were elated. They (his family) have made huge sacrifices for me and I always thank them for that. That is why it (the success) was worth sharing with them,” Sachin adds.
When we asked his comment on the Sachin Tendulkar museum, he says, “It is news to me (that a special museum is being set up with his belongings and his used cricket gears). I haven’t received any official intimation about it. But it sounds good to me.”
Recently after the Indian hockey team won their first match of the ongoing World Cup against Pakistan, a particular state government announced rewards only for the goal scorers. Sachin feels that though a couple of players only bring glory to the country on a given day, it is the team effort that wins the day.
“Everyone should be credited if the team wins. It is true that on a given day, two or three players will shine than the rest and I am not taking away any credit from them. But without the team playing as a unit, they can’t shine. So, I feel when a team wins the credit it should go to the entire team including the reserve players and the support staff. They have worked in every possible way to ensure that the team wins,” he ends.

sachin is a bharat ratba:sourav ganguly

Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly today joined the chorus in demanding Bharat Ratna, the country`s highest civilian award, to batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar.
"Sachin is a Bharat ratna. There is no doubt that he should be conferred the Bharat Ratna award," Ganguly told reporters after the practice session of the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Eden Gardens here.
The KKR skipper denied observation from some quarter that his side was weak in the bowling department.
"On the contrary, we have a strong bowling side. We have Shane Bond, Brad Hogg, Ishant Sharma, Ajantha Mendis, Ashok Dinda, Ajit Agarkar and Lakshmi Ratan Shukla."
On the third wicket keeper of the IPL franchise, the KKR skipper said it would be decided soon.
Besides Brendon Mccullum, the Kiwi wicket keeper batsman who is expected to join late in the tournament, KKR have Bengal`s Wriddhiman Saha as their second keeper.
The decision would be taken in couple of days and third wicket keeper could be one among Deep Dasgupta, Tilak Naidu and Rohit Sabharwal, Ganguly said.
After a disastrous campaign in the earlier edition last year in South Africa, KKR will feature in the inaugural match against Deccan Chargers in Mumbai on March 12.

Maradona says Argentina can go all the way

Argentina's larger-than-life coach Diego Maradona thinks that his players can win the World Cup if they show the form that saw them beat fellow favourites Germany 1-0.
"I am very happy because my players were so committed. They fulfilled my expectations. After 24 years Argentina needs the title, and playing at this standard we can do it," Maradona said after Wednesday's match.
"It was a tough game, but we showed that we are a great team, one of the best in the world," he added. "God willing, we are going to give our people a good World Cup."
Ninety-nine days before the World Cup in South Africa, the clash found "El Diez" under pressure after the 1978 and 1986 winners - the latter victory over the then West Germany virtually singlehandedly delivered by Maradona - came within a whisker of not qualifying and for his use of over 100 different players.
But his side outshone Germany on Wednesday, leaving the home side, which in contrast to Argentina had looked solid in qualification, looking like the one needing to go back to the drawing board.
"Mistakes get punished at this level," said Germany trainer Joachim Loew, assistant coach when Germany beat Argentina in a penalty shootout in the 2006 World Cup quarter-finals.
"Argentina really was a very, very strong team with lots of strong individual players. We didn't manage to build up pressure today, to make use of chances."
After a slow start as the teams sized each other up, it was Argentina who looked the more dangerous of the two sides, led from the front by Barcelona star Lionel Messi, Fifa's world footballer of the year 2009.
In the 38th minute, Angel di Maria dribbled his way past a sea of German defenders to fire off a shot.
Germany 'keeper Rene Adler, fresh from being named Germany's first-choice goalie for the World Cup this week, pulled off a spectacular save, deflecting the ball onto the woodwork.
But then just before the break, disaster struck for the Germans with a slip-up from Adler, who plays for high-flying Bundesliga outfit Bayer Levekusen, that suddenly made his selection look not quite so shrewd.
Adler sprinted out of his goal to intercept the ball from a fast-approaching Gonzalo Higuain, but the Real Madrid star won the challenge, rounded the 'keeper and tapped into the open goal.
The episode was much to the disapproval of long-term 'keeper Oliver "King" Kahn, now resigned to the commentary box.
"If you leave your goal you have to make sure you get the ball. Otherwise you should stay on your line," he said.

Korea first win in WC with Argentina in a Thriller

The last-minute goal from Hyun Woo Nam helped Korea edge Argentina in a Pool A thriller at the National Stadium in New Delhi.
After a goal-less first half, the second half provided all the entertainment. Facundo Callioni put the South Americans ahead in the 53rd minute before Nam Yong Lee and Nam scored in last ten minutes to lead the Koreans to their first win in the tournament.
The match ended on a dramatic note as Sung Hoon Yoon, in the dying moments of the match, appealed for a penalty corner after the umpire whistled in the Argentines' favour. Video referral came into picture, overruling the umpire's decision. Nam did not miss what would certainly have been the Koreans' last chance as his low strike went past the South American goalie Juan Tomas Espinosa.

India stands to fight with spain in WC Hockey

India will have to regroup their forces when they take on Spain in a crucial Pool B encounter of the hockey World Cup on Thursday.
After drubbing Pakistan 4-1 in their tournament opener, the Indians were given a reality check by Australia.
The hosts were surprised by the pace and verve of the Kookaburras, who completely outplayed them in all departments of the game in their 5-2 win on Tuesday night.
Jose Brasa's men were taught a good hockey lesson by Australia and showed that only control over the mid-field was not enough to win a game.
If pace and fitness was all about Australia, world number three Spain is known for its flair and one-touch hockey and the Indian defence cannot afford to relax at any moment and repeat the mistakes they committed against Australia.
A defeat on Thursday will severely dent India's semifinal chances.
Against the Australians, the Indian defence wore a sorry look from the onset, conceding two goals within the first 10 minutes.
Sandeep Singh-led backline had no answers to the speed and angular passes of the Australians.
Such was the Aussie domination that even India coach Brasa admitted his players were not used to such fast nature of hockey.
"We did not play bad, we played at our level much better than what we had in Salta. But Australia played at a different level of fast-paced hockey. We were not used to that kind of fast hockey," Brasa said.
The Indian forwardline, which missed the banned Shivendra Singh, completely looked off-colour on Tuesday with Prabhjot Singh and Deepak Thakur doing very little to prove their presence in the game.
But with the two-match suspension ruling Shivendra out of the next match, the trio of Deepak, Prabhjot and captain Rajpal Singh will have to rise to the occasion and come out with more innovative ideas to beat the Spanish defence.
"Playing without Shivendra and with just 15 players is our main concern," Brasa said.
Sandeep had a bad day in office against Australia as he could not convert even a single penalty corner out of three that India earned, and the ace drag-flicker will have to pull up his socks against Spain as short corners are one of the strong points of the home team.
"We were not lucky with penalty corners against Australia. We didn't succeed and that was the reason we couldn't get closer," Brasa said.
The Indians will also have to do away with their perennial habit of holding on to the ball for longer, a mistake which proved costly against Australia.
But notwithstanding all the flaws, Brasa will draw heart from the fact that the Indian mid-field sparkled yet again.
