We came up with an all-round show says kumble

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Anil Kumble on Sunday described his side's nine-wicket crushing of underdogs Guyana in their opening Champions League Twenty20 match here as a "perfect game" with his players coming up with an all-round show.

"It was a perfect game. We came up with an all-round show. The bowlers did a great job to restrict Guyana to 103 and then the batsmen finished off the match in style. It is good feeling that we have started the tournament with a win," Kumble said after RCB's nine-wicket victory.

"The first couple of overs were critical. Once Sarwan was out cheaply, the pressure was on them. When we chased, the thought was always there to end the match fast (to boost the net run-rate] but you needed solid platform too. Rahul and Kallis did just that for Robin to be able to tee off," he said.

"The players got enough time at the middle and I am hoping that we would do well in the coming matches," he added.

"We did not put enough runs on the board. We lost early wickets and that put the pressure on us. There were not just enough runs to defend," he said.

"But majority of the players have never played in these conditions and it is a learning experience. But we really need to learn fast," he added.

"I am coming back from a back injury. So I couldn't put too much work in the lead-up to the tournament. I am happy with my performance," he said.

"The team has got fantastic preparation in lead-up to the tournament. Credit should go to coach Ray (Jennings). We got good nets, good net bowlers.

Cesena beat Milan 2-0

Old habits die slowly. Mialn showed this by once again displaying their defensive inaptitude. They were once again not able to score despite their best efforts. They came close but were never close enough.
Ronaldinho forced a save within first 10 minutes. Pato had the ball at the back of the net but the linesman raised the offside flag. And just when Milan were looking to dominate Cesena took the lead through Bogdani. He put schelotto’s cross in the goal with his firm header. At the stroke of half time Cesena moved further close to an upset victory with their second goal. Giaccherini scoring from Bogdani’s through ball.
After half time, Pato had once again a goal disallowed, this time due to handball. Ibra was caught offside. In the 87th minue Inzaghi won a penalty, but this was not Milan’s day. Ibrahimovic missed the penalty too. It capped a performance which will raise many questions.
For Cesena the good start to the season continued. This win followed a draw against Roma. They would be a team to watch out for in the Serie A after seeing their performances against Roma and Milan.
Once again question marks are being raised over their defence. Nesta was certainly missed. Ibrahimovic and Pato would certainly be expected to have better days in front of goal.
Now the next game for Milan is the champions league match against Auxerrre.

Tiger Woods fails to make Tour Championship

There is still plenty of golf ahead for Tiger Woods this year but his PGA Tour season came to an early end at the BMW Championship on Sunday after he failed to earn a spot in the Tour Championship.

For the first time in 15-years, Woods finishes his PGA Tour season without claiming a single title but the world number one at least managed to exit on a positive note firing three birdies on a bogey-free back nine for a final round one-under 70.

The back-nine charge, however, was far too little, too late to earn Woods a place in the elite 30-man field for the lucrative season-ending Tour Championship in Atlanta. His one-under total of 283 left him in a tie for 15th and well out of the fifth place finish he needed to advance to the finale.

"That's just the way it is," shrugged Woods, when asked if he was disappointed not to be headed to Atlanta. "I didn't play well early in the year and I didn't play well in the middle of the year. "I would rather be there. I've played better than I have all this year. "But it is what it is. I didn't qualify and since I'm at home it gives me two weeks to practice and prepare."

"I think his game is like inches from being there," said Mickelson. "His speed is back. He's solid, very close. He's hitting shots. "He hit a lot of good shots there coming in. He made a couple of bogeys and followed up with a number of birdies there towards the end. "You can tell that his game is like inches from turning because his speed is back and his putter looks great. "His game is not far off at all. It looks very close to being right there."

Men's final postponed due to rain US Open

Rafael Nadal will have to wait at least one more day for a chance to complete his collection of grand slam titles after persistent rain washed out Sunday's US Open men's final against Novak Djokovic.

For the third year in a row, the championship decider was postponed until Monday after foul weather ruined any chance of the match proceeding as scheduled. Rain began falling less than two hours before the match was due to begin, forcing a halt to the women's doubles final that was nearing completion in Arthur Ashe Stadium.

About three and a half hours later, with no end in sight to the downpour, tournament officials decided to abandon play and reschedule the men's final at 4 p.m.

"Due to the continued uncertainty of the weather forecast for the remainder of the evening, and with the desire to be fair to the players and to our fans, the US Open men's singles championship will be postponed until Monday," tournament organisers said in a statement.

"I'm sure I will be fit to play my best tennis." The postponement once again raised questions about why there is no roof over centre court at the US Open. The centre courts at both the Australian Open and Wimbledon have retractable roofs while organisers of the French Open are in talks about covering up their main court. But US Tennis Association officials have balked at the idea because of the cost of covering Arthur Ashe Stadium, the largest tennis stadium in the world.

"It's technically complex and financially challenging," USTA spokesman Chris Widmaier said. "At a cost of more than $ 150 million, do you spend that on a roof or continue to fund grassroots tennis programs in this country?"

England beats Pakistan by 4 wickets in 2nd ODI

Andrew Strauss scored his fifth one-day century on Sunday to help steer England to a four-wicket win over Pakistan in the final over and take a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.

England's captain was dropped on 23 but went on to score 126, guiding his team to 295-6 after a vital second wicket partnership of 146 with Jonathan Trott (53).

Pakistan was given the perfect platform by openers Akmal and Mohammed Hafeez (43) with a stand of 122 amid unusually ill-disciplined bowling and fielding by England. Tim Bresnan's first three overs cost 25 runs as Akmal scored five boundaries in seven deliveries.

Paul Collingwood struck with his second ball, trapping Akmal lbw as he attempted a sweep to a ball that struck him in line of the off stump. It was the first ball Akmal received from the medium-pacer, and he exited after scoring 12 fours.

Asad Shafiq (50) and Mohammed Yousuf (46) helped to rebuild the Pakistan innings after the openers departed with a stand of 74. England followed a 3-1 test series win and a 2-0 Twenty20 series victory with a 24-run win at Durham in the first one-day international on Friday.
