Chennai Super Kings crowned CLT20 champs
Chennai Super Kings are the crowned champions of the Airtel Champions League Twenty20 after beating Warriors by 8 wickets in the final.
Muttiah Muralitharan (three for 16) and Ravichandran Ashwin (two for 16) starred with the ball to restrict the home side a mediocre 128 for seven, with only home captain Davy Jacobs (34) making any meaningful contribution.
Murali Vijay (58) and Michael Hussey (51) then hit half-centuries in a 103-run partnership to hand the Indian Premier League champions the title of best Twenty20 club in world cricket.
After winning the toss, the Warriors made a powerful start putting on 39 for the first wicket, which the out-of-form Ashwell Prince contributed just six towards before he played on from Doug Bollinger.
Jacobs, who found the boundary eight times in his 21-ball stay, fell shortly after when he was trapped leg before wicket while trying to reverse sweep Ashwin, the leading wicket-taker in the competition, leaving his side at 45 for two in the sixth over.
Colin Ingram and Justin Kreusch then found the going tough against the slower bowlers, reaching the halfway stage at 66, and the loss of the former for 16 further hampered their progress.
Muralitharan then struck a double blow in the 14th over removing the dangerous Mark Boucher (five) and Kreusch (17).
Craig Thyssen (25) tried to lift the Warriors, but the two spinners were difficult to get away as they kept the victory target down to a below-par 129.
In reply Vijay, who surpassed Jacobs during his stay to end as the top-run getter in the tournament, and Hussey were calm, yet convincing, in their approach.
They took seven overs to reach 50, before the India opener raised his 50 from 47 balls.
The century stand followed in the 15th over, before his wicket fell followed by that of Suresh Raina (two).
But Hussey and Mahendra Singh Dhoni (17 not out) guided their side over the line.

Chennai Super Kings face a do-or-die battle when they take on unbeaten Warriors in the ACLT20 Group A match on Wednesday.Chennai notched up two easy wins against Central Districts and Wayamba XI - in their first two matches before losing to Victoria Bushrangers in the Super Over and they now need nothing less than a win in their last group match on Wednesday to make it to the semifinals.
Warriors, on six points after winning all their three matches, would also want to register a win though they may sneak into the last four in case of a narrow loss on Wednesday.
With a net run rate of plus 0.975 as against plus 0.366 of Victoria, who also have six points from four matches, Warriors can make it to the semifinals in case of a narrow loss and in that case Victoria will be out of the tournament.
In terms of net run rate, Chennai, on four points now, are sitting pretty at plus 2.567 courtesy the 57-run and 97-run wins over Central Districts and Wayamba XI.
With opener Matthew Hayden struggling, Suresh raina would be the key batsman for Chennai. But captain Mahendra singh dhoni has Murali Vijay, who scored 73 in the last match, to bank on besides Subramaniam Badrinath and Anirudha Srikkant, who are also in fine touch in the tournament.
In the bowling department, Ravichandran Ashwin has been consistent with seven wickets in his kitty from three matches though he will have to quickly forget the 23 runs he conceded in the Super Over against Victoria Bushrangers.
Pacer doug bollinger and spin wizard Muralithran can also stepped in when the chips are down.
On the other hand, the South African champion side are high on confidence after their three victories on the trot under the able leadership of Davey jacob.
Both batting and bowling looked solid so far in the tournament. In batting, besides Jacob, Ashwell Prince and veteran Mark Bouncher have been the main contributers.
Juan Theron has been the pick of bowlers with six wickets from three games. Makhaya Ntini, Lonwabo Tsotsobe, Nicky Boje and Johan Botha have also come up with some exceptional performances.
Meanwhile, Wayamba XI take on Central Districts in an inconsequential match at the same venue earlier in the day tomorrow.
With no chance of making it to the semifinals after losing all their earlier three matches, each of the two sides would look to salvage some pride and bow out of the tournament with a win.

The Stags were thrashed by the Chennai Super Kings in the opening game, but then staged a strong comeback in their second match against the Australian T20 champions Victoria Bushrangers as they managed to stretch their trans-Tasman rivals.
The team has been plagued with a poor batting display and have been over-reliant on skipper Jamie How, who starred with a briliant 77 in the previous game. The knock, however, did not seem to inspire the rest of the batsmen, who will have to come good if they are to give themselves a chance of a win on Saturday.
The Stags' bowling too has been nothing to write home about. Doug Bracewell and company have seemed to be on track in the first few overs, but have buckled under pressure and have been expensive at the death. They surely are the underdogs but if they can draw on their never-say-die Kiwi spirit, they may actually be able to spring a surprise at the St George's Park.
The home side Warriors on the other hand have emerged as a contender for the title after having comprehensively beaten Wayamba Elevens in their opening game and having upset the Bushrangers in their next game. The win against the Aussie club must have given the Warriors a fillip and they will look to carry on this momentum and seal a semi-final spot with a third straight win on Saturday.
Pacer Rusty Theron has been the pick of the bowlers for the Warriors and has been superbly supported at the other end by Makhaya Ntini, Lonwabo Tstosobe and Nicky Boke.
Their batting, though, has been a bit of concern as they have looked to be over-reliant on Davey Jacobs and Mark Boucher. And Saturday's match is the perfect game to get the batting in order, especially before their final league game against the Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday.
